About the Silk Scarves
Many years ago, I was fortunate to be able to travel in China as a student of architecture. I visited a silk manufacturing company and marveled at the process of creating silk fabric from the cocoons of butterflies.
As a painter, I have experimented with various ways to reproduce artwork on fabrics. I found that there is just nothing like the luminosity of silk to pick up the many intense hues and the delicate crisp edges of water color paintings.
The reflective qualities of silk add a dimension to the colors and patterns of my water color and acrylic paintings that moves with your body in the light.
The satin silk I use for my art scarves is the best quality silk available in the world. About ten years ago I associated with a Chinese company to produce reproductions of my paintings in limited editions on silk to create the line of ArtbyTina satin silk fashion line of scarves. The square scarves are large enough to wear as a shawl or hip wrap. The larger sarong style scarves I offer are are sized to be tied and worn on your body in the Tahitian style.
The fabric provides excellent sun protection for your skin. I carry one of my silk scarves whenever I travel, they are my most versatile fashion accessory in any climate zone. I wear mine as a bikini cover up, a head scarf, hip scarf, or dressy shoulder wrap for an elegant evening out. I use it as a shawl to keep warm on the airplane or at the theater. I also use it as a pillow wrap to protect my skin from the harsh detergents that hotels sometimes use.
Fabric care: The colors are luxurious and color safe. The fabric is 100% satin silk and very heavy in weight, 16 momme. A delicate rolled machine hem stitch is utilized for all four sides of the scarf. The scarves should be dry cleaned and can be ironed on the back side using a light spray of distilled water. In a pinch if dry cleaning is not available, the scarf can be rinsed in water and hung (not wrung) to dry. Its best to iron the scarf when the silk has almost dried but is still damp to the touch. Never, ever use bleach or harsh detergents.
I hope you will enjoy your art scarf for many years to come. Each year I will release a limited supply of new silk fashion designs on my website, www.artbytina.net.
